The National Academy of Music “Gheorghe Dima” as a member of the IncluMusic Erasmus + Partnership Project, had the opportunity to participate based on the recommendation of the National Agency for Community Programs in the Field of Education and Professional Development, at the 2nd instalment of the Embrace Inclusion and Diversity in your Erasmus+ Projects LTA seminar, organized between November 14th and 19th 2023, in the city of Zagreb, Croatia. Our colleague Andrea Lawrence Joy, IncluMusic Erasmus+ Partnership Project Representative/Researcher agreed to share some valuable insights following the event.

IncluMusic: Harmonising Education for Neurodiverse Music Students
In a harmonious collaboration spanning across Europe, the IncluMusic project is poised to revolutionise music education for students with special educational needs and neurodiverse traits. Course Design Principles for Building Inclusive Higher Education Systems
WP2 of the IncluMusic project, titled "Course Design Principles for Building Inclusive Higher Education Systems," aimed to create training courses for educational professionals to foster inclusive higher music education for students with special educational needs (SEN). This initiative was designed to provide teachers, administrative staff, and academic tutors with the necessary competencies to accommodate SEN students effectively.

RESOLVO has joined the IncluMusic project
The IncluMusic project recently had some changes in its project partnership. After the withdrawal of the project partner ValueDo, Italy, the project welcomed Resolvo s.r.l., Italy.
IncluMusic workshop in Leuven on 21st September: a roadmap towards a more inclusive Higher Music Education
On 21st September, the IncluMusic partners will deliver a workshop titled ‘IncluMusic: a roadmap towards a more inclusive Higher Music Education’, in the frame of the AEC Annual Meeting for International Relations Coordinators 2023 in Leuven.
Updates on the current stage of the project
The European project IncluΜusic aims to foster the inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disadvantaged backgrounds in Higher Music Education Institutions. Through cooperation activities it will provide training for music teachers in innovative pedagogies in order to increase access, participation and completion rates of music students with limited opportunities.

As an active partner in the KA220 INCLUMUSIC project, the Conservatory of Music Alessandro Scarlatti successfully hosted the ARTEMIS Diversity, Inclusion & Gender Equality (DIGE) Working Group, on October 2, 2023. In the frame of the AEC - Empowering Artists as Makers in Society project (ARTEMIS, 2022-2025), co-funded by the European Union, this workshop aimed at sharing experiences, identifying good practices and collaboratively envisioning institutional changes in relation to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Higher Music Education (HME).

The role of the Special Education Needs Coordinator: an interview with Prof. Rosa Alba Gambino at the Conservatory A. Scarlatti, Palermo

Within Italian Conservatories, the role of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator has long been established, tasked with monitoring the enrollment and educational journey of students with disabilities.
Workshop in Leuven. Shaping the role of the Academic Tutor for inclusive music teaching: highlights from the IncluMusic workshop in Leuven
IncluMusic partners delivered a workshop titled ‘IncluMusic: a roadmap towards a more inclusive Higher Music Education’, aimed at sharing different methods through which students with Special Education Needs (SEN) in Higher Music Education (HME) can be integrated, and how teaching in this area is delivered at the national and European levels. Moreover, the workshop aimed at identifying good practices for the design of new relevant tools for SEN students.
A Special Education Needs training course for HMEIs is coming to life
On 13-14 March, IncluMusic partners met in Florence in order to work jointly on the last phase of development of a training course addressed to teachers and administrative staff, who will ultimately make HMEIs a more inclusive environment for students with Special Education Needs (SEN). The meeting was hosted by ValueDo, and focused on the validation of the training material already developed by all project partners, as well as on the e-learning platform in which the training course will be hosted.
As part of the IncluMusic project, I had the privilege to interview Angelica Postu, a trailblazer in the field of music therapy and a dedicated advocate for emotional well-being through music. Currently based in Berlin, Angelica brings her expertise as a music therapist and pianist to the Psychiatric University Clinic of Charité Hospital, where she also pursues doctoral studies in Music Therapy at the Berlin University of the Arts.

The AEC Congress 2023 held at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague between the 9th and 11th of November 2023 was the most attended event in the history of the AEC, drawing more than 420 in-person participants from approximately 40 countries.
